Hurley “Rip My Shred Stick Tour”
Michael and I drove up to Onslow Beach, NC to help Hurley out with their “Rip My Shred Stick” tour this year. We hoped on the bus at some seedy little Jacksonville motel and cruised into the base at about 7:00 am. We where in awe the whole journey through, watching tanks and other heavily armored machinery pass by. As for every close call, all I could think about was one of those 60 ton tanks plowing through the side of our card-board-box-of-an-RV. Once arriving to the beach, I felt as if I was in post-war 1940’s. The whole 14 mile beach front is uninhabited, due to all the military action going down on the shores, for the exception of a few small, faded, pastel colored beach shacks.
The contest was a success. There was probably a total of twenty five kids and current/former military personnel that surfaced for the affair. All the Hurley guys where assisting the kids by pushing them into waves and teaching them how to surf. About 75% of all the contestants had NEVER surfed before at all. Thats hard to believe judging from the video. Check the short documentation of stops four(Onslow Beach) and five(Outer Banks) of the tour!
